Ordered these two fabric patterns! (soz for blurry photo)

This post is scheduled as I'm currently away for a long weekend, yayyy break! But I thought I would still make a 'This week' post with photos up to now (Thursday). If you follow me on instagram (@AnnaGwenllian) I might've/hopefully will have posted some photos of my weekend away, and I'll make a little post about it next Wednesday :)

So Tuesday was the first day of autumn, and the weather proved that it was officially here! Wind, rain, gloomy... And leaves are already changing colour and falling, I can't believe it's nearly October, waaa! But I do like autumn, halloween, bonfire night, and the run up - including - Christmas.

I had a lovely lunch with my friend mid-week, and we both had each others birthday gifts which we kept forgetting to give each other, so we finally had birthday-gift-exchanges and lunch on Wednesday :) She knows me so well with the gifts, and I LOVE the kitty ears make-up bag... SO CUTE!

I ordered two different patterns (both birds...) for more fabric this week, so I can make some cushion covers! If you're interested in one - send me a message via the 'Contact' page above. Don't worry I didn't use this blurry image for the upload! Hopefully they'll arrive within the next month :)

This is a recent commission I made and its progress from the early mock-up to the final piece! I tried out my own handwriting for this one, and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, so I think I'll try to experiment more with my own handwritten style from now on. I think they flow better with the drawings when I do them myself, but I definitely need some practice! Off to my sketchbook...

If you're interested in commissioning me for a piece, feel free to send me a message through the 'Contact' page above :)

These are just a couple of sketches from my sketchbook which I drew recently, if you follow me on instagram then you might've seen them already :)

I love having sketchbooks to experiment with different styles, try out different methods or just drawing with a biro/felt tip/charcoal instead of my usual pencils! Even though they're just little sketches in a sketchbook I still feel like I need to be happy with every drawing I make, but I think I need to learn to just draw and sketch, and if I'm not happy with it then it doesn't matter because I can just make more drawings! If that makes sense? It makes sense to me anyway hehe :)

...and FINISHED PIECE!

This is a recent commission I did, and thought I'd share photos of it from start to finish. I actually don't really like football, BUT, I really enjoyed this piece! This was an A5 drawing, and usually my pieces (or commissions) are A4. Even though I really like working on A4 or larger scales, I really love making smaller drawings. I think I enjoy them so much because I can finish them quicker and I guess I'm more energetic to get the drawing finished (?!) - did any of that just make sense?? Anyway, I think (and hope!) that that comes across in the drawings :)
Do you prefer working on smaller or larger scale pieces?

If you're looking for a commission, send me a message through the contact page above :)

Detox tea

Feeling a bit run down, lurgy or cold-y? How about giving this a try!

Last week (and the week before a bit) I was feeling really unwell, typical cold and run-down type symptoms - feeling very tired, headache, etc. I wanted to do something to help it go away - especially as I had work to do - so last week I started making some of this, and it has definitely helped! Well, it has for me anyway :)  All you need is -

~ Green tea
~ Juice from half a lemon (and a slice for decoration if you fancy!)
~ Teaspoon of honey

SO EASY! It tastes really nice too, like a hot lemony drink - not too bitter or too sweet. PLUS it has all the health benefits of green tea, lemon and honey in one - POIFECT!

This week has been very busy with some commissions again, (and feeling ill still boo hoo) but I finished what I needed to and this weekend I've been relaxing, ahhh!

Out to the sun I go! Hwyl!

Recent commission of a personalised print

Recent commission of a personalised print

Not many photos this week as I've been a bit ill unfortunately (boo). I still have work to do, but late afternoon on Thursday I had to go lie down on the sofa with some tea (boo hoo!) So this weekend I moved my workspace to the sofa! I can't show much of what I'm working on at the moment - except that part of the mockup - but I'll have lots of finished pieces and #wip photos once they're finished. The last photo of the personalised commission wasn't from this week, but I did post photos of it up this week! Hehe!

Sketchbook 20-08-14

I have a new little sketchbook, so of course I'm trying to fill it up with little sketches as I used to do before. I thought I'd share some as I go along! Just did this little drawing today, using my new eco pencils (posh!), sharpies (AHHH!) and the new pierre noire pencil I wanted to try out. I really like that pencil, not sure if it really goes with this sketch, but I like the effect so I'll attempt a drawing using just that!

New stationery eep!

DPP_3.JPG

Yay new stationery! I'm actually not a *massive* stationery person (compared with other illustrators/arty people I know anyway!), but every now and then I love having a little spree. I bought these over the past couple weeks, some Derwent eco pencils (my [arty-bit] for the environment), a pencil case to take with me on the go, sharpies (OMG 24 eep!) just because... and a pocket moleskine which I forgot to photograph oops! I also wanted to try out a charcoal pencil (?!) and a Pierre Noire pencil (???!!!), has anyone else tried these out? They're kind of similar, but the pierre noire is more like a black colouring pencil, and they're both handy for shading/dark bits in a drawing instead of getting that shine with pencil in photos and through the scanner. And that's it! Have you bought any new stationery recently?

Caernarfon - Caersaint #wip

(apologies for the poor lighting, it was on my old phone!)

(apologies for the poor lighting, it was on my old phone!)

I have been a TERRIBLE blogger, mainly because I always think that I should only post about work that I've done, without much text to it, not really sure why. This post doesn't really help my cause, but I have decided to just blog about whatever I fancy, and after this EPIPHANY (tad dramatic maybz) from reading Harriet of Hello Harriet's post (here), I came up with so many blog post ideas. So far today I've come up with - and saved as drafts - SEVEN blog posts (eight including this, say what!), and I've already written some of them too *shock horror*. It's a whole new world, of blogging that is. So as I will still be blogging about "Here's something I did earlier", that won't be the only  thing, and I'm already excited about future posts, yippee!

Anyway moving on to this current post! This is a recent commission I did for someone's retirement, so lovely that they thought of me to create special gift for them, and I hope they enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed creating it :)

Here's a piece I made recently, just personal work, not for anything or anyone. I'm happy with how it turned out so I decided to add some colour into it. Once I've finished the colour properly, I think I'll put them up in my shop to sell as prints... maybe mini A5 prints, we'll see!

Here's a new piece I've just finished. I did this piece a while back and forgot about it until I found it recently! So I decided to add colour to it finally. I'm happy with how it's turned out. This piece is now for sale as an A4 print in my shop!

Just over a month ago I received a message from my friend Emily, letting me know that she was using my artwork, drawings of the city, as inspiration for a series of lessons with her year 7, based on the built environment. They did some experimental monoprinting in response to my work too, and this is the result! Brilliant! :)

Caerdydd / Cardiff print

So this is my first post of 2014, oops! Oh well, never mind. I thought I'd just post something small up to start off with to catch up. I finished this piece of Cardiff city just before Christmas, and managed to get it up on my Etsy shop and sell some just before Christmas! Yippee! I'm really happy with how this turned out, I hadn't drawn anything on this large scale (original drawing is A2) for a while. I'm looking forward to drawing more large scale cityscapes, can you recommend the next city for me to draw?!

Catch up!

Eek! I haven't blogged in such a long time! The main reason is I haven't really had much to blog about, it's been either 'work in progress' or work that I'm unable to show, waiting for things in the post (like the fabric, which HAS arrived now, yay!) just little things like that. But now all of a sudden, I have LOADS of things to blog about, so expect a lot of blog posts in the next few weeks! I thought I'd just make a little 'catch up' of what I've been up to in photos, and then in the next blog posts I can go more in depth with certain stuff (like the work in progress, I can show the finished piece!) So I'm off now to write new blog posts!
